A Safer Broad Street Means a Stronger Windsor
First Town Downtown urges Windsor residents to support this project at the Special Town Meeting on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Windsor High School Auditorium, and in the referendum in May.
First Town Downtown proudly supports the Broad Street Traffic Calming and Pedestrian Safety Project — because a safe, walkable downtown is essential to Windsor’s future.
As Windsor’s designated Main Street organization, our mission has always been to strengthen the economic, cultural, and social vitality of Windsor Center. A safer Broad Street is not separate from that mission — it is central to it.
For years, we’ve worked alongside residents, businesses, and town leaders to promote a downtown designed for people — not just pass-through traffic. Today, about 70% of the 10,000 vehicles traveling Broad Street each day are simply passing through. Slower speeds, shorter crossings, and improved safety measures give our local businesses a better chance to capture the attention of people already traveling through our town.
**Safety is about people — and prosperity. When streets feel safe, families visit more often, older residents feel confident walking to local shops, and businesses thrive.
Communities across the country that have made similar improvements have seen: Increased foot traffic More time spent in downtown areas Stronger local businesses Revitalized commercial districts
Even more important: This project is fully funded by federal and state grants — at no cost to Windsor taxpayers.
We encourage Windsor residents to attend: Special Town Meeting Windsor High School Auditorium Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 PM
Your voice matters in shaping the future of Windsor Center. Together, we can build a downtown that is safe, welcoming, and thriving — for everyone.
