Susan Cardillo

Biography
Dr. Cardillo has a Bachelor of Arts in Radio/Television Communications and Theatre from the University of Arizona, a Master of Science in Interactive Media at Quinnipiac University (with a Masters Certificate in Media Management from the New School), and a Doctorate of Computer Science in Emerging Media concentrating on Interactive Documentary (digital storytelling) for Social Change.

She has taught Advertising at Flagler College, Digital Media at Sanford Brown College, Mass Communications Assistant Professor at Piedmont College and currently Digital Media and Journalism at the University of Hartford. As Assistant Professor of Digital Media and Journalism at the University of Hartford, Dr. Cardillo will focuses on her tenure work in Digital Storytelling/Interactive Documentary for Social Awareness and Change.
Dr. Cardillo has presented at the World Educational Media and Technology Conference where she won the Most Outstanding Paper award for her paper, Standards and Tools for Designing and Developing Interactive Documentaries that Bring About Social Involvement and Change.

She also presented at the Contemporary Issues Summit 2017 at Harvard on Interactive Storytelling for Social Change and at International Conference for Social Science, Arts, Business and Education at the University of California, Riverside on her paper, Computer Science, Mass Communications and Social Entrepreneurship: an Interdisciplinary Approach to Teaching Interactive Storytelling for the Greater Good.

Dr. Cardillo spent last summer in Lithuania where she brought students to film a documentary entitled, Finding Matilda. This is a story about a young college from the University of Vilnius who was murdered in Lithuania in 1943 just for being Jewish. Dr. Cardillo has also directed documentaries on Holocaust survivors, historical sites and people in the Hartford area, including Mims Butterworth(first woman president of Hartford Women’s College) who turned 100 this year.

Why Susan loves Windsor center
My husband and I moved to the Hartford area 18 months ago after I received my appointment at the University of Hartford. We chose Windsor to rent our home, based on the fact that the owners would allow a St. Bernard. We spent 6 months looking for a place to buy. We travelled all over the area, including Avon, Simsbury and Granby. But we kept coming back to Windsor. I would see these other towns and I kept comparing them to Windsor. We love the town green and the people are wonderful. I really wanted to live right near downtown and we were lucky enough, with the help of Sharon Rispoli, to find the perfect home on Maple Avenue.
Windsor is a magical place. It is as if time has stood still with its feeling of “good old American home town”. Our neighbors on Maple Avenue are great. During a recent snow storm, all the neighbors were out helping each other shovel the snow and helping the elders of the neighborhood.
Although downtown has gone through some transitions, I believe with a little effort and love it can thrive again. Windsor’s town green is a unique place that creates a central space for all of the wonderful people of Windsor to come together and create community.
