Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church Archaeological Dig Presentation Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 1:00pm – 2:30pm at Town Hall Council Chambers, 275 Broad Street, Windsor, CT. Join the Archer Memorial African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church, the Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) Anthropology Program Field School, and the Windsor Freedom Trail for a presentation on an exciting excavation project that occurred in June of this summer on the grounds of this historic church. This church played a significant role in supporting the need for religious and social connections of a growing African Americans population that settled in Windsor’s Hayden Station/Pond Road area during the 19th century. Given the rich history of the church, it is a site on the Connecticut Freedom Trail and the Windsor Freedom Trail. During this excavation project the collaborators worked together, experiencing various aspects of archaeological fieldwork to further inform the membership of significant historical aspects of the church and its’ earlier church community. Come to hear about this experience, learn about the process, and view a display of artifacts discovered at the site. Free event. download: AME-Zion-Dig-Image.docx |
