Pre-Planning Funerals, Eldercare & Estate Issues

As more “Baby Boomers” become “older Americans”, an increasing number of people are seeking information about a variety of eldercare, estate planning, and aging issues. That’s why family-owned Carmon Community Funeral Homes will host four free community programs in June to provide information about pre-planning of final arrangements, how to pay for these services, and how to protect one’s assets if Title 19/Medicaid is ever needed.

Included at each event will be an overview of information about eldercare, and requirements for effective estate planning and asset protection. Attendees will learn how to protect themselves and their estates and will receive a free planning guide. Questions from the audience are encouraged.

People can register now for any one of the free Carmon Community Funeral Homes programs. Each session will last approximately 1 1/2 hours.

Choose one of the following programs:
· On Tuesday, June 7 (two identical programs) at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home at 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83) in Vernon; and
· On Thursday, June 9 (two identical programs) at 2:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home at 419 Buckland Road in South Windsor.

Speaking at all four programs will be:
· Nicole I. Paquette, CFSP, CPC, a licensed Funeral Director and Certified Pre-Planning Consultant with Carmon Community Funeral Homes. A Past President of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association, Ms. Paquette will explain the benefits of planning for your funeral or cremation. She will explain why many people do this to relieve much of the emotional and financial burden from their families who otherwise must make many decisions in the difficult days following their death. She also will tell how others plan ahead to be sure that all of their own funeral or cremation details are in place –exactly how they want them – including the choice of a burial or cremation, type of service, or specific arrangement features. The amounts allowed in pre-paid funeral trust contracts for Medicaid (Title XIX) will also be reviewed, including a recent change to CT law.

At each of the sessions, a local attorney will join Ms. Paquette to provide an overview about how to protect one’s assets for the future with proper estate planning, including wills and powers of attorney:

· On Tuesday, June 7 at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home in Vernon, Atty. Stephen F. Sutton of Vernon’s Kahan, Kerensky & Capossela, LLP will speak at both programs; and

· On Thursday, June 9 at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home in South Windsor, Kevin F. Rennie, Attorney at Law in South Windsor, will present at both programs.
