On Friday, December 9 from 6-8 p.m., ring in the holidays at Windsor Historical Society with an exploration of the origins and tastes of some of the favorite beverages of early Americans. Ever heard of flip? Shrub? How about posset, the forerunner of eggnog, or grog, a sailor’s favorite? Society Archivist Michelle Tom and Educator John Mooney will briefly regale you with the origins of these concoctions and some colorful laws governing the operations of early Connecticut inns and taverns, as you sample historical drinks and enjoy light munchies. The flip will be prepared hearth-side at the Society’s historic Strong-Howard House. Grog and posset are new drinks featured this holiday season. Recipes provided! Cost for this adults-only program is $15, $14 for WHS members. For more information, contact us at 860/688-3813 or www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org. |
