“Jim Matus Solo Laoutar: beautiful melodies, harmonic twists and trancey grooves with an emphasis on improvisation.” Tickets $15, $10 CGS members. Advance ticket reservations are highly recommended. Tickets may be purchased online at: www.ctguitar.org or The Guitar Society office (860) 249-1132. Massachusetts resident Jim Matus, inventor and master of the solo laoutar, performs an intimate house concert. His music is mesmerizing and unique and like nothing you have ever heard before. Jim performs a original combination of Jazz, Middle Eastern, and Folk music. Beautiful melodic lines with some dissonant twists and trancey rhythms. Reminiscent of McLaughlin’s Shakti or early acoustic Zeppelin. Jim has done opening spots for such diverse artists as Veiux Farka Toure and James Montgomery. A treat to listen to the beautiful melodies, harmonic twists and hypnotic grooves of Jim Matus on the Laoutar. The laoutar is a combination of a mandocello and a Greek laouto. The laoutar is a rare 8-stringed instrument, a cross between a guitar, the Greek lute, and a mando-cello -- and Jim is a master of it. Composer, band leader, arranger, laouto/laoutar player, guitarist, teacher and studio engineer - specializing in progressive world fusion, jazz, rock and improvisatory music Jim studied Guitar and Composition at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) and with Pat Metheny and John Scofield. The Connecticut Guitar Society is a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of all styles of guitar music throughout the New England. Society membership is non-restricted and open to the general public whose support is a sustaining part of the Society’s operations.
