CRIS Radio is looking for golfers to tee up at its 17th Annual CRIS Radio Golf Classic on Wed., Sept. 10 at the Manchester Country Club with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. CRIS (Connecticut Radio Information System) is a 36-year-old nonprofit that provides audio versions of news, information and educational materials featured in newspapers, magazines and classroom texts for children and adults with print disabilities who are unable to read due to a visual, learning, physical, emotional, or intellectually disability. Thanks to nearly 300 volunteers, all CRIS recordings feature human narration. Scot Haney, co-host of “Better Connecticut” and meteorologist on WFSB Channel 3, will emcee the event and conduct a live auction during dinner. There are more than 25 auction items, including: an autographed New York Giants football; a Boston Harbor sunset cruise; a water taxi to New York City; a Koji Uehara autographed Red Sox baseball; and the installation of a new toilet, donated by a local plumber. In addition, there will be $10,000 hole-in-one prize and a second hole-in-one contest that comes with a $500 prize in groceries. Other prizes will be awarded, including the top three foursomes, longest drive, and for the “closest to the pin.” John Casolo, a member of the United States Blind Golf Association whose members are blind or visually impaired, will participate in the tournament. Windsor Federal Savings, Fiondella, Milone & LaSaracina CPAs, Rabbett Insurance, Total Vision Center, Wayne and Sharon Mulligan, WFSB, and Price Chopper, have signed on as event sponsors. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available, beginning at $75 for a program ad. Player fee of $150 includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, a buffet dinner and a live auction. The early bird special offers a reduced fee of $135 if purchased by Aug. 15.
