Mary’s Place is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide an atmosphere of thrust where families who are grieving a death of a family member can share their experiences, receive support and find comfort, as noted on their website. The Poquonock Avenue facility is one of only three grieving centers in Connecticut, and prides itself on providing quality social work care for children as young as three and families. Founder Mary Keanu , an oncology nurse opened Mary’s Place in 1996 after converting the facility that previously housed Carmon Community Funeral Homes, a major benefactor of the organization, According to her biography on Mary’s Place website, her realization of the need for a support system for young people who had suffered the death of a loved one pushed her to organize peer support groups, which ultimately developed into Mary’s Place. For more information on how to donate beyond the weekly cruise nights, visit the centers website at .https://www.Mary’s place.org. Roy Szoka of South Windsor, a participant at Bart’s Wednesday Cruise Nights since 2015 is conducting a fundraiser for Mary’s Place this summer at Bart’s. Cruise Nights take place every Wednesday from 5 to sunset at Bart’s Drive-in located at 55 Palisado Ave. in Windsor by the banks of the scenic Farmington River and iconic stone railroad bridge. When you are there have your picture with “Shelby”, their Mascot donated by Sharran Selig Bennett. Thank-you Sharran. This Hope to see you all there. |
