Truth is stranger than fiction – especially when it comes to witches and cemeteries! Prepare yourself for Halloween week, when the worlds of the living and dead are closest, with two historical examinations of these seasonal topics. Two of Windsor: Accused and Exonerated of Witchcraft. Wednesday, October 25, 7:00-8:00pm. Author Beth Caruso explores the colonial witch trial cases of Alice Young and Lydia Gilbert of Windsor and other 17th-century indictments and deaths, as well as the recent General Assembly resolution to exonerate the accused. Tour Historic Palisado Cemetery. Saturday, October 28, 1:00-2:30pm. Join former Windsor Historical Society director Christine Ermenc for a stroll through Palisado Cemetery, home of Connecticut’s oldest grave, where history and art come together. Christine will share stories of community members buried here and the gravestone carvers who memorialized them. Rain date Sunday, October 29. Meet at Windsor Historical Society, 96 Palisado Avenue, Windsor. Admission for each is $5. Register in advance at windsorhistoricalsociety.org, or pay at the door. |
