First Town Downtown Inc (FTDT) is proud to announce that $3 million has been secured for the Windsor Center Road Diet as part of the year-end $1.7 trillion federal spending bill. These funds were added to the bill as Community Project Funding by Congressman John Larson (D) of the CT 1st District and are in addition to $1.2 million secured for this transformational project by Rep. Jane Garibay from the State of Connecticut. FTDT was instrumental in securing these funds, and hosted Congressman Larson and officials of the Town of Windsor on a tour of Windsor Center in March 2022. On that occasion he met with several FirstTown Downtown member businesses that received Federal ARPA funds to support them through the COVID-19 pandemic. He was briefed on the road diet project and was left with a very positive impression of the Center’s business community and potential. This funding wraps-up a pivotal year for the ongoing transformation of Windsor Center, which saw the establishment of a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District to support public improvements downtown and the advancement of important mixed-use development projects in the Center. The new TIF District promises to secure a steady stream of funding for FTDT initiatives, and we are proud to have been a part of crafting this policy. FTDT looks forward to continuing its efforts to enhance the character and vibrancy of Windsor Center and welcomes additional input from its members and the general public as our collective vision for downtown is realized.
