Coal Mining and Music
Russ Salk will host a presentation Coal Mining and Music about this industry early in the 20th century. The first part will be a multimedia presentation of extended selections from Julia Wolfe's powerful and moving piece, "Anthracite Fields." This piece won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2015. After, Russ will give a talk about working conditions of miners. Some of the details related to this can truly be described as shocking. People with roots or connections to coal mining areas, with personal stories to tell, are welcome to tell their stories. This program will go from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Doors will open at 6:45 PM.
