“Our evening appointment times are very popular with working people,” said Many Rivers acupuncturist Heather Finn, L.Ac. “But seniors have expressed a desire for more daytime appointments. Since acupuncture is helpful for many of the health problems faced by seniors, we decided to offer this $10 special in March.” Many seniors are challenged by issues with chronic pain. In 2012, the Journal of the American Medical Association reviewed the effectiveness of acupuncture for chronic pain conditions including back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, and shoulder pain. The research team, which included MDs and PhDs, reviewed 29 randomized controlled trials, with a total of 17,922 patients analyzed. They concluded that acupuncture is an effective treatment for chronic pain. In addition to pain, seniors are also likely to face issues with difficulty sleeping, poor digestion, asthma and breathing problems. Many Rivers' highly-trained acupuncturists not only treat chronic pain but also insomnia, IBS, constipation, asthma, and allergies. Many Rivers is part of the community acupuncture movement, which is working to make health care affordable and accessible. Acupuncture treatments are provided on a sliding scale, from $15 - $35 per treatment (plus a one-time new patient paperwork fee of $10). Many Rivers is open Monday through Friday, with evening appointments available until 7:00 pm Monday through Thursday. The clinic is located at 44 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor center.
