Windsor Art Center at the Freight House
Begining Saturday, February 2, the Windsor Art Center at the Freight House will host an exhibition of work by the artists Joe Sam. and Jeanne Manzelli. This show captures the richness, beauty and depth that exists within our cultures and communities.
Joe Sam. is a mixed media painter and sculptor. The content of his work is often social and political commentary. His style is characterized by the juxtaposition of diverse, independent, often quite simple elements and his use of bright colors, reflective of his African American heritage. He has achieved national and international recognition with over 25 solo shows and as many public art commissions. His public art sculptures have been installed all over the country with many important works located in California.
Jeanne Manzelli is a mural artist and lecturer at Tunxis Community College. After a 20 year career in jewelry design she made the decision to change direction and began to paint. "I have always been fascinated by balance and tension in design. When I moved to painting, I did so because I was not good at it, and loved what painters could do, to move people in really profound ways." She has achieved recognition for her historic images of Hartford, as well as views of existing historic sites, locked into a landscape with their contemporary counterparts.

Artist Talk Feb. 16th Sat., from 1 to 3 p.m. Come listen to artist Joe Sam discuss how his work reflects issues and ideas concerning people of color.
Artist Talk Feb. 23th Sat., from 1 to 3 p.m. Mural artist Jeanne Manzelli discusses how her mural and painting come together in an exploratory way.
